Abstract
Objective: To develop a comprehensive proposal for the prevention of adverse events in patients with gastrostomy due to esophageal atresia, aiming to improve the quality of midwifery care for neonatal surgical patients.
Methodology: Information was collected from neonatal medical records through systematic and controlled observation, ensuring patient and family anonymity. Additionally, a review of current scientific evidence was conducted to establish strategies and recommendations for gastrostomy care in neonates.
Results: A lack of standardization in midwifery care for neonates with gastrostomy due to esophageal atresia was identified, which may increase the risk of adverse events. The literature review suggests that implementing bundles (sets of standardized interventions) enhances patient safety, reduces complications, and optimizes the quality of care. Their application would help structure care more effectively, reduce variability in clinical practices, and strengthen the role of midwives in managing these patients.
Conclusions: The role of midwives is essential in providing comprehensive and high-quality care for neonates with gastrostomy due to esophageal atresia. The incorporation of bundles has proven to be an effective strategy in reducing adverse events and standardizing care, benefiting both the patient and their family.
